This former Schalke player is the top favorite for the position of sporting director

Alemannia Aachen can breathe a sigh of relief: after three defeats in a row and the suspension of Benedetto Muzzicato, the imperial city team won in Wiesbaden.

Alemannia Aachen is restructuring its sporting activities for the 2025/2026 season.
A new head coach and sporting director are being sought. Benedetto Muzzicato and Erdal Celik have been relieved of their duties. In their first game since the duo’s departure, Alemannia won 2-1 at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The next dismissal proved just how crazy this 3rd division is: SVWW parted ways with coach Nils Döring.

Meanwhile, Aachen’s interim coach Ilyas Trenz was naturally overjoyed. The assistant coach of the dismissed Muzzicato said: “I saw my team play very well in the first half – it was tactically at a high level. What Wiesbaden does is very difficult to defend against. By always pulling their sixes out, they create space for their strikers. But the boys handled this complicated situation well.“

Trenz also hadn’t forgotten his former boss and praised Muzzicato: ”Finally, I’d like to say that I dedicate this victory to Benedetto Muzzicato, who gave his all for the team for weeks. I also dedicate the victory to Noah, our assistant coach, and above all to Erdal Celik, who gave his all for the club for two and a half years. I hope that with this victory, we have found a good conclusion for everyone involved who is no longer with us, and I hope that they are also proud of us.”

It remains to be seen how things will continue at Tivoli in terms of personnel. Several names are being bandied about, including that of former RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski. However, Aachen still seem to be undecided on the question of sporting director. Alemannia Aachen: Will Sergio Pinto return to Tivoli? The former Alemannia Aachen pro still lives in the city and is a close confidant of managing director Rachid Azzouzi. The 45-year-old Pinto already worked with Azzouzi at Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth. Alemannia Aachen (101), Schalke 04 (30), UD Levante (23), Fortuna Düsseldorf (22), and Alemannia Aachen (1).

Pinto was part of the successful Alemannia Bundesliga team of 2006/2007. The team included players such as Vedad Ibesevic, Marius Ebbers, Alexander Klitzpera, Sascha Rösler, Cristian Fiel, and many other Alemannia icons. Perhaps Pinto will now return to Tivoli as an official.

To date, he has only worked for Greuther Fürth in the role of squad planner. He was also head scout here, as well as at Eintracht Frankfurt and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
