After Torsten Ziegner’s leave of absence, Engin Vural was promoted to interim coach of the professionals. This also has an impact on the U19s.
One day after the 2:3 home defeat against SC Verl, MSV Duisburg parted company with coach Torsten Ziegner with immediate effect. This also indirectly affected the U19 team, whose coach Engin Vural is now coaching the professionals in the Third Division on an interim basis.
Vural, in turn, is being replaced for the time being by the two co-trainers Andre Panz and Dimitri Steininger.
Panz spoke in an interview with Forecasting about…
… his debut as U19 coach in the district duel against FC Schalke: “It was very special. You can’t say that any other way. Last season I was still coaching performance class and now I get to lead a junior Bundesliga team as a boss. I have to thank the club for their trust.”
… the 0:1 defeat against Schalker U19: “Actually, it’s always difficult to find words after a game like that – I also told the team that. But when a team invests so much, it’s relatively easy to find words. You just have to congratulate the boys, even though they lost. They put everything into it and in the end Schalke had luck on their side. “
..communication with Engin Vural under the current conditions: “We got the whole thing as a team. We are in rough communication, but really only about very rough things. He needs to focus on football up in the pros.”
… the impact of Vural’s promotion on the U19s: “We have our same rhythms, we have the same training times, we have the same match preparation. Of course with a little bit different content. We try to bring in one or two new impulses. But it’s almost impossible to change big things within a week.”
… the prospect of becoming Vural’s permanent successor in the U19s: “The current state of affairs is that Engin Vural is coaching the professionals. I have no other information. I’ll do my job until I get other information. If the club says yes, then yes. If the club says we can’t do it or want to bring in someone new, then that’s perfectly fine. Then I go back to second string and do my job. I am grateful for every chance.”
… the current points tally of seven points from six games: “That can be improved and is not our ambition. We also gave away some points. We will do everything we can to get at least ten points next week and win in Wuppertal (Sun., 1.10., 11 a.m., editor’s note). “
