This is what the new RWE jersey looks like – fans upset!

Third-division soccer club Rot-Weiss Essen has unveiled its home kit for the upcoming 2024/2025 season. Not all fans are impressed

The time had come on Friday afternoon: Rot-Weiss Essen unveiled the new home kit for the 2024/2025 season.

While the players presented the new jersey live to fans and press representatives at the season opener organized together with the fan and sponsorship department (FFA) at the Essen stadium, RWE simultaneously published a matching promotional video on social networks under the motto “All Red”.

In it, the club showed the naturally exclusively positive reactions of some players to the new jersey, which, as the name suggests, is completely in RWE red this season. This applies to the top as well as the shorts and socks. Keeper Jakob Golz was even so impressed in the promotional clip that he jokingly asked coach Christoph Dabrowksi if he could play in the six next season so that he could wear the new Jako field player jersey and not the goalkeeper kit

The club describes the design as follows: “The kit, designed together with kit supplier JAKO and the red and white creative agency Altobelli, follows the motto “All Red”. The basic design consists of the RWE red, which is overlaid with geometric shapes in Bordeaux red. A vertical stripe, also in red, interrupts this look. The RWE logo, placed atypically in the middle of the jersey, also matches the overall look. “

To round off the design, main sponsor ifm has also decided to adapt the color of its logo and present the ifm sign in white this season. This way, the 2024/25 home jersey lives up to the name Rot-Weiss Essen

Red-Weiss Essen: RWE crest barely visible, anger among some fans

However, the new design has not gone down well with everyone. Unlike the sponsor, the Rot-Weiss Essen logo is very difficult to see. The fact that it is in red on a red background and the Ifm lettering is in white means that the latter catches the eye first.

“The crest has to be red and white! Can’t recognize it as a jersey at all…”, said user @kickersHL on X. “Looks like an IFM souvenir shirt,” even @DimaBauer2BW complained

Rot-Weiss Essen: New jersey will not be sent out until the end of August

The new RWE jersey will be available for pre-order in the RWE online store from July 22 at a price of 84.95 euros (children’s sizes 69.95 euros) – for logistical reasons, shipping will not take place until the end of August. Seven days later, the new workwear will be in action for the first time. Christoph Dabrowski’s team will then face double winners Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a test match (26.7., 7 p.m.).
