The SG Schönebeck has been promoted to the Landesliga. We talked to coach Olaf Rehmann about it.
With a narrow two-point lead, the SG Schönebeck made it: promotion to the Landesliga. Through their attacking style, they managed to finish in first place with 74 points. “At least five teams would definitely have deserved it as well,” said SGS coach Olaf Rehmann. “We had a very good start, of course it also involved a bit of luck.”
The number of places in Landesliga 2 has been increased from 14 to 20, this expansion now giving more teams the opportunity to compete and show their skills in this league. But with the expansion also comes more competition for the promoted teams. Rehmann sees this as a “huge challenge” in which his team wants to “give everything”.
After the promotion, the Schoenebeckers have had a short training and preparation period, during which only a short training camp was possible. “The preparation time was intensive, yet of course we want to give everything,” reported the Schönebeck coach.
For the upcoming season, the SG Schönebeck still plans to play with the majority of the current players. “I’m not a fan of the players who helped the team get promoted then being replaced,” the promotion coach told us, confirming that no major changes are in store for the squad.
For the coach, the focus is not only on the result, but also on the way they achieve it and that the spectators keep coming to the game. And what are the Schönebeckers’ plans for the Landesliga season? “As a promoted team with such a young squad, our goal is to stay in the league.
