There are still five games to go in the Bundesliga. It can get very emotional. Anthony Losilla, captain of VfL Bochum, was already fighting tears against Wolfsburg.
The relegation battle in the Bundesliga is a fierce one. VfL Bochum is also in the thick of the fight to stay in the relegation zone. On Friday (8:30 p.m.), the derby will be played at home against BVB. We spoke to VfL captain Anthony Losilla beforehand.
Anthony Losilla, how quickly have you come to terms with the bitter defeat against VfL Wolfsburg? Has this game been dealt with and are you looking ahead?
We have to process it quickly, we only have a little time until the game on Friday. We’re clearly looking ahead again.
Although the statistics were quite readable, you had no chance of success. How did you experience that?
There are also many reasons why we lost so heavily. If you just look at the statistics, that’s fine, they almost all speak for us. Nevertheless, we lost 1:5, which is decisive. It means that we didn’t defend properly in the important moments and didn’t score in front. The goal must be to improve in both directions.
Friday sees BVB, the league leader, come to Bochum. What is realistically possible against the league leaders?
We’ve played BVB twice. I thought they were two good games. Even though we lost 0:3, that was okay, we conceded some real dream goals. We have everything in it to annoy even strong opponents. But only if we show all the things that have often made us stand out.
You’re still in a non-relegation spot. What’s important in the last five games?
The important thing is that we’re above the line with five games to go. We have everything in our own hands. It’s better than being dependent on others. We just have to get more points than the three behind us, that’s the goal.
The fans have recognized the seriousness of the situation. Even after the 1:5, there were words of encouragement. You were also standing in front of the fan stands, what was going through your mind?
That was outstanding. Despite this defeat, we were supported and pushed. I haven’t seen that before after a 1:5. It was very emotional for the head. I have to admit, I had tears in my eyes. You could see that anything is possible here. If we stay together, we can achieve anything. cb / gp
