Rene Klingenburg is barely back on the market, and already there is the first hot rumour about the currently club-less attacking midfielder.
That would be a big thing and would probably please all fans of this club! According to the “Bild” newspaper, SC Preußen Münster is interested in signing Rene Klingenburg for the 2023/2024 season.
For the 29-year-old, who only recently terminated his contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, it would be a return to Hammer Straße. After all, “die Klinge” played his way into the hearts of Preußen fans in 36 games (nine goals, four assists) in the 2018/2019 season before moving to Dynamo Dresden.
“When a player like Klingenburg is on the market, you already have him on your radar and think about him,” Münster’s Peter Niemeyer is quoted as saying in Bild. The 39-year-old SCP sporting director added: “There are and have been no negotiations yet. Especially since we don’t know at all what he actually wants himself. And whether his ideas would match ours. For now, we are concentrating fully on our current tasks.”
Because one thing is clear: Münster is well on the way to the 3rd League, but Klingenburg would only sign with Preußen if promotion were also certain. He is unlikely to want to switch to the Regionalliga.
Klingenburg currently lives with his family in a hotel and keeps fit with a personal trainer. The Klingenburgs were recently the victims of house break-ins and are currently trying to put the recent past from Kaiserslautern behind them. Perhaps a new start for Klingenburg and his family would be perfect in Münster, a city he knows and at a club like SC Preußen.
In a recent interview – RevierSport reported – the Oberhausen native, who grew up in Mülheim an der Ruhr, said of his future: “You want to get ahead. And if it’s perhaps the next traditional club that I can help on the way up from the 3rd Division – maybe that’s my task in life.” Sounds quite like a club like Preußen Münster…
