Thomas Ouwejan back in training – duo making progress

Fc Schalke 04 have started their preparation for the match in Augsburg. Coach Thomas Reis will be able to rely on him again.

The wind was blowing hard across the training ground of FC Schalke 04 on Monday afternoon, but the professionals of the Königsblauen did not let it spoil their good mood. After the 2:2 in the Revierderby, the Schalke players were full of energy as they prepared for the away game against FC Augsburg on Saturday (3.30 p.m./Sky) – it will be another key game in the fight to stay in the relegation zone.

The professionals only worked on the pitch for around an hour on Monday – the starting eleven players from last Saturday were on the ball for an even shorter time. Marcin Kaminski (31) was not among them. The central defender is suffering from lumbago. However, he should be back in training soon.

The situation is completely different for Soichiro Kozuki (22), who will have ankle surgery this Tuesday. The Japanese offensive player is even threatened with retirement for the season.

On the other hand, there is good news about Thomas Ouwejan. After his adductor injury, the 26-year-old Dutchman was able to train with the team again for the first time. He could soon be an option for the squad again. However, the Augsburg game is likely to come too soon for the left-back.

Individuals on the pitch also worked Jere Uronen (28) and Sebastian Polter (31). While Uronen, who is also suffering from muscular problems in the adductor area, was able to do exercises with the ball again, Polter only did laps on the pitch after tearing his cruciate ligament. For the centre-forward, however, this is also a first step towards a comeback, because until recently he was still dependent on a special brace.
