The regional leagues are entering the final matchday. While some decisions have already been made, in other leagues promotion or relegation is still at stake.
In the Regionalliga West, everything is already clear ahead of the final matchday: Alemannia Aachen will make their long-awaited return to the 3rd division, while SV Lippstadt, SSVg Velbert, FC Wegberg-Beeck and Rot Weiss Ahlen will be relegated. But what about the other four leagues?
Regionalliga Nord:
In the Regionalliga Nord, Hannover 96’s second team were able to celebrate at the weekend. With a clear 5:0 win over the already relegated Eimsbütteler TV, the 96ers made everything clear in the fight for the championship. However, the question of promotion is still unresolved, as the champions of the Regionalliga Nord have to play two promotion matches against the champions of the Regionalliga Bayern.
In the basement of the table, SC Spelle-Venhaus and Kilia Kiel are certain to be relegated, as is ETV. Above them, SSV Jeddeloh II (15th, 36 points), SC Weiche Flensburg (14th, 38 points) and Eintracht Norderstedt (13th, 40 points) are still fighting for direct relegation. Until after the end of the season, it remains unclear whether 14th or 13th place will be enough.
If Hannover 96 II wins the relegation play-off, the 14th-placed team can look forward to staying in the league, while the 15th-placed team will have to go into the relegation play-off. If the champions fail, the 15th-placed team will go straight into the Oberliga, while the 14th-placed team will be relegated. Particularly explosive: Flensburg and Norderstedt meet in a direct duel on the last matchday.
Regionalliga Bayern:
Hannover 96 II’s relegation opponent has already been decided for some time. Würzburger Kickers have a ten-point lead with one matchday to go and are fighting for a ticket to the third division.
Things are much tighter in the basement, where neither of the two directly relegated teams has yet been decided. Between FC Memmingen (18th, 26 points), TSV Buchbach (17th, 27), Eintracht Bamberg (16th, 28) and SV Schalding-Heining (15th, 30), the last matchday will decide which two teams go down directly and which teams have to go into the relegation play-offs.
Regionalliga Nordost:
FC Energie Cottbus missed a great opportunity at the weekend to wrap up the title and the direct promotion that goes with it ahead of time. They only managed a 3-3 draw against Luckenwalde, but the FCE were very fortunate that their closest rivals Greifswalder FC were unable to take advantage of their slip-up and lost 5-2 to Altglienicke. The Cottbus team now go into the final matchday at Hertha II (14th) with a three-point lead but a goal difference that is three goals worse. Greifswald will host Meuselwitz (10th) at the same time.
In the basement, on the other hand, it is clear that Berliner AK 07 and Hansa Rostock II will be relegated to the fifth tier.
Regionalliga Südwest:
Things are even closer at the top in the south-west: one matchday before the end of the season, Stuttgarter Kickers are one point and three goals ahead of VfB Stuttgart II. On the final matchday, the Kickers have to play FC Homburg (6th), while VfB will face TSG Hoffenheim II (3rd), coached by Vincent Wagner.
The situation is different in the basement: Now that SV Waldhof Mannheim have secured their place in the 3rd division, it is clear that VfR Aalen, Schott Mainz, TSG Balingen and TuS Koblenz, the last four teams in the Regionalliga Südwest, have already been relegated.
