Three former captains leave the Lohrheide

SG Wattenscheid 09 has said goodbye to three more players. Jeff Malcherek, Marvin Schurig and Arda Nebi are leaving the Lohrheide.

SG Wattenscheid 09 and Arda Nebi are going their separate ways for the coming season.

The 33-year-old attacking player became captain under coach Engin Yavuzaslan and has made 21 appearances in the Oberliga season so far. He also scored two goals (against Rheine and Gievenbeck, editor’s note). He moved from Sportfreunde Siegen to the Lohrheide at the start of the season. Now Nebi has come to an end. Where his path will take him is still unknown.

The same applies to ex-captains Jeff Malcherek and 35-year-old Marvin Schurig. He will not be entering his fifth SG season and will be leaving the club.

“He has simply been through it all with SG 09 in recent years: whether it was the new start, the corona season, the promotion year, the relegation and the successful fight to stay in the league. Marvin Schurig was not only a player, but also captain and, most recently, co-coach. “Schu” has been promoted to the regional league a whopping six times in his career. Most recently, he also made it with SG 09 in the legendary promotion match against Eintracht Rheine in the 2021/2022 season. We say thank you for four years of 09 lifeblood and wish you good health and much success in everything that lies ahead. Take care!”, with these words Schurig is bid farewell from Wattenscheid.

Marvin Schurig also addresses the fans personally:

“Dear 09’ers, at some point the moment of farewell comes for every player. Now it’s time for me!

I had an incredibly enjoyable four years that I will never forget, but they weren’t always easy either. 06.06.2022 was simply the best day of soccer in my career so far. It was an honor to have led the team onto the pitch as captain during that time. I would like to thank all the volunteers at the club, all the players and, of course, the fans who supported us throughout.

I would very much like to see a new force develop in Wattenscheid that will continue to write positive headlines. Such a great club belongs in a completely different league. We have now met once. But you always see each other twice in life. I will miss you.

Best wishes from your Schu “
