The atmosphere at 1. FC Magdeburg has been better before. The fans have been angry lately. Now there has been a discussion, including an apology from the coach.
1. FC Magdeburg is in last place in the 2nd Bundesliga. They are only one point away from safety and only five points behind ninth place, but the FCM fans have been very angry lately.
After the 1:1 against Karlsruher SC, emotions boiled over after the final whistle. The Ultra scene in particular accused the team of a lack of commitment. But now, before the game against Holstein Kiel, everything seems to have been cleared up between fans, team and also coach Christian Titz.
“We exchanged points of view, discussed why, why, what the views were. And we then agreed quite clearly, there were emotions, there were overreactions, but everyone wants the same thing. We want to give everything together for the club,” said Otmar Schork, FCM managing director, and also spoke of a reprocessing within the team: “There is always a human being in everyone.”
Head coach Titz had already conceded earlier. “After the game I was disappointed by the behaviour towards my team and could not understand it. Then, out of emotion, there was a hand gesture waving away, with which I wanted to express that I didn’t agree with it,” he explained and emphasised: “If a person really felt attacked or insulted by that, then I’m sorry, because that wasn’t my intention.”
There had already been an all-clear at a fan meeting on Tuesday. Titz: “It was important that we came together and exchanged views. We agree that we want to go to Kiel together and try everything to be successful there.”
Around 1500 fans from Magdeburg are expected in Kiel. Titz will then have to do without another two key players. “Cristiano Piccini and Andreas Müller are unfortunately injured,” reported the football coach, who also has two former Essen Red and Whites in his team, Amara Condé and Daniel Heber. wozi with dpa
