Top match spectacle – red, missed penalty, a coach also sacked

There was a lot of fire in the top match of the Regional League between Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Preußen Münster. In the end, RWO won 3:2 (1:1).

Most recently, Preußen Münster failed to win three games in a row in the Regionalliga West, with the game at FC Schalke II being replayed after being abandoned.

On Sunday, the previous leaders had to play Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. And the match was a tough one. RWO wanted to catch up at the top, Münster the top back from SV Rödinghausen – the SVR had come out on top on Saturday against Wattenscheid 09 with 3:0. In the end, RWO won a gripping match 3:2.

The Kleeblätter got off to the better start, taking the lead after 16 minutes through goal scorer Sven Kreyer. Ten minutes later they equalised – after a corner it was Michael Wentzel who scored in his own goal to make it 1-1.

After 33 minutes, things got heated. Referee Johannes Liedtke called an emergency stop after a foul by Alexander Hahn. The result: a sending-off and a penalty. But Kreyer missed the great chance to score the 2:1 in overtime. His penalty kick hit the post and Nils Winter hit the crossbar. And so it went into the dressing room with the score at 1:1.

After the change, RWO immediately stepped on the gas and were rewarded after one minute. Kelvin Lunga scored after an assist from Anton Heinz to make it 2-1, and then it was Heinz who scored what looked like a 3-1 after an hour – but when the stadium was already celebrating, the referees ruled it offside.

A little later, the third goal for RWO was scored. After a corner, substitute Jerome Propheter was on the spot and scored what was supposed to be the decider. But Münster came back even when they were shorthanded – Henok Teklab scored shortly before the end to make it 2:3 from Preußen’s point of view. But the visitors did not manage to equalise.

Rödinghausen thus remained first. And RWO moved up to third place behind Preußen Münster.

RWO’s next game is next Saturday (22 October, 2 pm) at Wuppertaler SV. Münster will play at home against promoted 1. FC Düren at the same time.
