Rot-Weiß Oberhausen continues to march from victory to victory. On Friday evening, RWO picked up their fourth win in a row. The reward: top spot in the table.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is in top form! On Friday evening, RWO celebrated a 2:0 away win at Fortuna Düsseldorf II. Moritz Stoppelkamp (his fifth goal of the season in the sixth game, editor’s note) and Kerem Yalcin scored again for Oberhausen.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen started like the fire brigade in the Paul Janes Stadium. Oguzhan Kefkir and Marius Kleinsorge were at full throttle from the first minute and immediately put the Fortuna defence under pressure. The reward came after just twelve minutes: The lively Kleinsorge was brought down in the penalty area and referee Cengiz Kabalakli pointed to the spot. Moritz Stoppelkamp was grateful – 1:0 for Oberhausen!
Only five minutes later: Kerem Yalcin was given far too much space in the control centre in midfield, he completed his run on goal with a passing finish into the net 2:0 for RWO after 17 minutes.
Fortuna needed time to fight their way into the game. Shortly before half-time, it became dangerous once again: RWO keeper Robin Benz prevented Maxim Schröder’s follow-up goal with a brilliant save. Fortune was through and failed in a one-on-one duel with the Oberhausen goalkeeper.
The second half was characterised by many inaccuracies and hardly any scoring chances. Denis Donkor (82nd) had the best chance: He ran unchallenged towards the Düsseldorf goal. Shortly before keeper Dennis Gorka, the attacker decided not to take the shot himself and tried to find Stoppelkamp with a cross pass. However, the ball was caught by the Fortuna defender who had come along in the meantime – the pass was the wrong decision.
Nevertheless, RWO played the game down with confidence and celebrated their fourth win in a row – 13 points from six games. The result: Oberhausen is now top of the table, at least overnight.
