Things are going well at SC Preußen Münster. While the first team is leading the Regionalliga West, Münster II is playing strongly in the Oberliga Westfalen.
Those in charge at Preußen Münster should be following the sporting season with great joy. Even though Sascha Hildmann’s team suffered a minor setback against Wuppertaler SV (0:1), the SCP is still at the top of the Regionalliga West. And the second team is also doing more than just well.
After 14 match days, Kieran Schulze-Marmeling’s team is in second place in the Oberliga Westfalen, just three points behind leaders TuS Bövinghausen. “It’s crazy good. I’m mega happy with the guys and with the performances. It’s actually more like we’re one or two points short than too many. I’m totally happy with the individual development but also with that as a team,” the coach is pleased to say. “To be second in the top division and have an average of over two points, that’s certainly something special for us. “
Second in the top division is “absolute luxury “
Last year, Münster’s second team was one of the mid-table teams and finished second in the relegation round. In the meantime, the team has grown together. “Last year we had an insanely young team with 15 players who were playing their first senior year. The situation simply strengthened us, even with the Corona stress and the relegation round, when we sometimes had three English weeks in a row. We went through and overcame a lot together,” Schulze-Marmeling recalls of the difficult circumstances of last season.
Even last year, he says, they showed football “that didn’t necessarily stand for the relegation round.” This season, the results are also good.
Young talents from the first team are also helping from time to time. At the weekend, for example, Deniz Bindemann (19) scored his fifth goal in five appearances. He has also made eight appearances for the first team this year (two goals, three assists). “Of course we are there so that boys like Deniz, Noah Kloth or Kevin Schacht can and must gain playing practice with us in between,” explained the coach.
The fact that the second team plays just one division below the first is “an absolute luxury” for Münster. “The Oberliga is an outstanding training league for us. It’s really fun and not that far away from what the players can then expect in the Regionalliga. “
Double promotion is not possible
By the way, promotion is out of the question this year – even if the first team makes it into the 3rd division. The statutes stipulate that the second team of a third league club may not play in the regional league. But even in this case, the Oberliga still has a sufficient level, he says. “A Marcel Hoffmeier, who is already in the 2nd Bundesliga, or a Nicolai Remberg, who is in the limelight there, went this way via the Oberliga,” says Schulze-Marmeling.
