Ahmed Kutucu is causing a sensation in the Süper Lig. The former Schalke player is the top scorer in the Turkish top flight after twelve games.
Around six years ago, Ahmed Kutucu was considered the greatest gem to come out of Schalke’s youth academy. At just 18 years of age, the Gelsenkirchen-born player made his Champions League debut for the S04 professionals.
He played a total of 52 competitive games for FC Schalke 04, scoring six goals and setting up four more. However, the talented striker failed to make his breakthrough because former coaches David Wagner, Manuel Baum, and Christian Gross preferred to rely on other players. Kutucu only made eight starts.
As a result, the striker had no future at his beloved club and was sold to Basaksehir in Turkey in 2021 for a low transfer fee of €500,000. He has been playing for Eyüpspor since 2023. So far, it has been a real success story.
In his first year, the team celebrated the second division championship title, to which Kutucu contributed 14 goals and four assists, and this season is also going extremely well.
Just last matchday, the attacker, who now plays on the left wing, scored the 1-0 winning goal in the ninth minute of the away game against Adana Demirspor. He had to be substituted at half-time with a slight thigh strain. This victory saw the promoted side climb to fourth place in the Süper Lig, which would qualify them for the Conference League at the end of the season.
The former Schalke player has played a major role in this, as Kutucu is the top scorer in the Turkish top flight alongside Dusan Tadic. The 24-year-old has scored five goals and provided five assists in twelve games.
This puts him ahead of star strikers Ciro Immobile (formerly BVB), Edin Dzeko (German champion with Wolfsburg) and Victor Osimhen (market value €75 million). Kutucu has been directly involved in a goal in each of his last six league games. Eyüpspor’s next game is on November 23 against Caykur Rizespor. By then, the former Schalke player should have recovered from his strain so that he can continue his goal-scoring streak.
