Tough and high: US runners triumph at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

The UTMB is one of the most challenging mountain marathons in the world, with a distance of around 170 km, around 10,000 meters of ascent and a time limit of 46.5 hours.

Jim Walmsley won the Mont Blanc UTMB ultramarathon – in 19 hours, 37 minutes and 43 seconds. He is the first US American ever to win the world-famous race. His compatriot Zach Miller came second and Frenchman Germain Grangier third

A US-American also won the women’s race, Courtney Dauwalter in 23 hours, 29 minutes 14′ seconds. It was her third victory on Mont Blanc after the 2019 and 2021 titles

Germany’s Katharina Hartmuth and France’s Blandine L. Hirondel came second and third.

The Utra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is one of the most challenging mountain marathons in the world, with a distance of around 170 km, around 10,000 meters of ascent and a time limit of 46.5 hours.

For this reason, only experienced runners who can withstand the extremely difficult terrain and weather conditions are permitted to take part.
