Defending champion Tadej Pogačar won the sixth stage of the Tour de France and took over the yellow jersey. The Slovenian from Team UAE Emirates won the longest stage of this Tour, 219.9 kilometres, from Binche in Belgium to Longwy. He finished ahead of Australian Michael Matthews and Frenchman David Gaudu.
The 23-year-old defending champion Tadej Pogačar now takes the lead in the 109th Tour de France.

In the overall standings, Pogačar is now four seconds ahead of Neilson Powless of the US and 31 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark.
Difficult stage on Friday
The race continues on Friday with stage 7, which is considered difficult. It is a seven-kilometre climb to the Super Planche des Belles Filles in the French Vosges mountains. On Twitter, Pogačar wrote that it was a privilege to ride up the mountain in the yellow jersey
