Westfalia Dortmund are working on their squad for the Kreisliga A. On Monday evening, the club announced its fourth new summer signing.
It is already clear that Westfalia Dortmund’s march through the ranks will continue. In the 2024/25 season, the team founded in 2022 will compete in the Kreisliga A. Maurice Temme, chairman, coach and player in one, and his team are already hard at work on the squad.
After seven winter transfers, the fourth new signing for the summer has now been confirmed. Casey Backhaus will join Westfalia on their mission to dominate the Kreisliga A at the first attempt.
The 24-year-old full-back was trained at Borussia Dortmund, among others, during his youth years. He went on to play for SG Wattenscheid 09, Hammer SpVgg and most recently SV Sodingen as a senior player.
Little time as an entrepreneur: “We were able to seize this opportunity”
“We have spoken to Casey. He shares our philosophy and is an absolute winner,” explained Kevin Temme, brother of Maurice and sporting director and player at Westfalia. “Casey is an entrepreneur and therefore currently has less time to play top-class soccer. We were able to take advantage of this opportunity.” Backhaus founded a fashion label together with Werder Bremen goal scorer Justin Njinmah, who also previously played for BVB.
Dortmund had previously secured the services of Mohamed El Bouazzati, Abdul Rahman Abou Abaid and Hosan Ahmed.
Central defender El Bouazzati also comes from Dortmund’s youth ranks. The 27-year-old, who made 16 appearances in the 3rd division for BVB II and VfL Osnabrück among others, moved to Westfalia last summer, but then left the club for SC Osmanlispor Dortmund. Now he is here to stay.
Abou Abaid, an 18-year-old goal scorer from the youth team of the regional league club Mengede 08/20, is also joining the Dortmund side. The perfect counterpart is the already 38-year-old Ahmed, who is at home in central midfield and joins Westfalia with 13 years of experience in the first Iraqi league, among other things.
