Just before the start of the regional league season, 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn have made a remarkable transfer.
1. FC Kaan-Marienborn, promoted from the Oberliga Westfalen, will start the regional league season on Sunday (2 pm) against Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U23. Shortly before the match, coach Thorsten Nehrbauer’s team was able to come up with a transfer coup.
Lukas Scepanik is moving to the Westphalian club. His CV already includes 65 appearances in the 3rd Division for MSV Duisburg and most recently Türkgücü München. The 28-year-old has also made 149 appearances in the Regionalliga, 36 of them for Rot-Weiss Essen.
Now Scepanik, who can be deployed flexibly on the left, is expected to help Kaan-Marienborn stay in the league. “We wanted to set ourselves up even more flexibly in the offensive area to be more unpredictable for our opponents. The variability that Lukas brings with him, as he can play many positions, is a big plus for us. We are pleased that we were able to convince him of our project and that we have gained an experienced player who will help us,” emphasised Jochen Trilling, Kaan-Marienborn’s sporting director.
However, the 28-year-old is still lacking match practice. Due to the withdrawal of Türkgücü from the Third Division, Scepanik played his last competitive match on 19 March against SV Wehen – at that time he played 17 minutes. In total, he made 18 league appearances for Türkgücü last season.
