Martin Fraisl has apparently found a new club. The FC Schalke 04 promoted goalkeeper will reportedly stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.
After his departure from FC Schalke 04, Martin Fraisl will stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. The goalkeeper is switching to Arminia Bielefeld.
This was the Bundesliga relegation team’s reaction to the injury suffered by goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino. The 28-year-old injured his right thigh in the 1:1 draw at Heidenheim on Sunday and will not be available to the club until further notice. “He knows the 2nd Bundesliga well and knows the contribution a goalkeeper with top performances can make to his team,” said Arminia’s sporting director Samir Arabi in the context of Fraisl’s signing.
Fraisl: Second division experience with Schalke and Sandhausen
Fraisl was under contract with FC Schalke last season. On the eighth matchday, the 29-year-old surpassed Ralf Fährmann as regular keeper and made 26 appearances. The end result was promotion. Fraisl’s expiring contract was not renewed. Since then, he has been without a club, most recently keeping himself fit with FC Bayern’s reserves. “We parted extremely cleanly, with great appreciation. We decided together that we would each go a different way,” the Austrian said on Sky after his departure.
Fraisl has also played for SV Sandhausen in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Austrian has made a total of 71 appearances in the lower division. Soon more will be added – in the jersey of Arminia Bielefeld.
