Leroy Sané has to rest again against Cologne. His pubic bone has reacted after the Arsenal game. Bayern coach Tuchel also draws attention with a forecast for the home European Championship.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel’s fitness update on national team player Leroy Sané ahead of the home game against 1. FC Köln also contained some worrying information for national coach Julian Nagelsmann with a view to the upcoming home European Championships. After his strong performance in the 2-2 Champions League draw against FC Arsenal, the winger will have to rest again this Saturday (3.30pm) in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Köln, as Tuchel announced
Sané “showed a reaction” after his 66-minute appearance in London last Wednesday, Tuchel reported on Friday. And then it happened: The 28-year-old Sané would not be able to “cure the pain in his pubic bone while playing”, as Tuchel explained. Looking ahead to the coming weeks, he added: “That will remain the case in the current season and at the European Championships.” The problems may therefore accompany Sané into the summer. The home tournament begins on June 14.
Tuchel’s plan with Sané is for him to slowly resume training on Sunday and be able to play in the decisive quarter-final second leg against Arsenal. That is the focus, said the coach. Sané’s attacking qualities are absolutely essential in the Premier League, as Tuchel said: “Leroy was an important factor in the first leg against Arsenal.”
Tuchel, who is suspended for four yellow cards, will not be allowed to coach on the sidelines for the match against Cologne. “I think I’ll watch it in the box,” said the 50-year-old. In addition to Sané, international striker Serge Gnabry, who is injured again, will also be absent.
Tuchel wants to make a few changes against Cologne to give rhythm to players like Thomas Müller, who have been on the bench recently. As Alphonso Davies will be suspended against Arsenal, the alternative full-backs Raphael Guerreiro and Noussair Mazroui will also be in the starting eleven together. However, the coach left it open as to who will start where.
Manuel Neuer will be in goal. The captain did not train on Thursday. “With Manu, I have it completely on my radar that he can play,” said Tuchel.
