The preliminary round of the Duisburg Indoor City Championship is over. For the Oberliga club VfB Homberg, the entire tournament is over.
On Friday, it was the turn of groups C and D at the Indoor City Championship in Duisburg.
District league team TuS Asterlagen surprisingly came out on top in Group C with an impeccable haul of twelve points from four games and 15:6 goals, defeating favorites FSV Duisburg 4:3 in the process.
The regional league team finished second with nine points and thus also qualified for the intermediate round. The tournament is already over for third-placed Rumelner TV, ETuS Bissingheim and district league team Viktoria Buchholz (only one point).
Group D was won by the reigning indoor city champions SV Genc Osman Duisburg and district league team Rheinland Hamborn with nine points each. MTV Union Hamborn and DJK Vierlinden missed out on the intermediate round.
VfB Homberg eliminated
The two first-placed teams Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 and Spvgg Meiderich 06/95 and the runners-up Duisburger FV 08 and SuS Viktoria Wehofen had already qualified for the intermediate round on Thursday.
That left two places, which would go to the two best third-placed teams in groups A to D. Here, the starting position of Duisburger SV 1900, who picked up nine points on Thursday, would prove to be enough.
SG Duisburg-Süd 98/20 secured the last ticket on Friday with nine points. This also means that the tournament is over for Oberliga side VfB Homberg, who scored just seven points on Thursday.
The intermediate round of the Duisburg Indoor City Championship will take place on Saturday in two groups of five teams each.
The semi-finals will continue immediately afterwards. The final is scheduled for 6.30 p.m.
