With the tailwind from the successful preparation, TVD Velbert is confident going into the new season of the Oberliga Niederrhein. Most recently, a series of victories in the test matches was achieved.
The new season in the Oberliga Niederrhein starts the weekend after next. But the TVD Velbert has to sit out the very first match day. Sporting director Michael Kirschner is very satisfied with his team’s preparation: “The coaching team has praised the team for its performance. Especially the young players are a lot of fun for all of us, because they increase the intensity in training and want to improve all the time. Combined with the more experienced players, we have a great squad for next season.”
After two tough games against Wuppertaler SV (1:5) and the reserves of Fortuna Düsseldorf (0:6), the Velbert team was able to turn things around in preparation. Three victories in a row followed, most recently a 2:1 win against the second team of Preußen Münster during the training camp. During the four days at Lake Hiltrup, the team was able to grow together both on and off the pitch.
TVD wants to play at the top
On 10 August, TVD will start the new season with a home match against Sportfreunde Baumberg. “We are facing a long season with 40 games. After the first third, we will be able to better assess where we stand. In the last few years, we wanted to achieve a single-digit place in the table as a minimum goal. With sixth place, we were able to achieve our best top division finish. We want to build on that and play at the top again this season,” Kirschner explains the club’s orientation.
The TVD announced ten new signings during the summer break, including Timo Brauer, who has already played in more than 200 Regionalliga matches. The Velbert team currently has a 26-man squad. However, Kirschner does not want to rule out the possibility that this could still expand. “We still have one or two enquiries and a few trial players with us. Whether we strengthen our squad also depends on how the players who have been struggling with injuries come back. But we are not actively looking and are already very happy with the squad. “
