Twelve times behind, hardly anything gained – Schalke with a league low

When FC Schalke 04 is behind in the Bundesliga 2, there is usually nothing to be gained. This is supported by a statistic in a league-wide comparison.

FC Schalke 04 has already been behind twelve times in the current Bundesliga 2 season. Only once has the Royal Blues managed to turn a deficit into something tangible. With the three points they have scored, they are bottom of the league in this respect. No team has scored fewer points after falling behind than S04.

When Schalke were last and only allowed to celebrate after trailing at the end, the calendar still showed September 2023. That was on matchday 6, when 1. FC Magdeburg were guests at Royal Blue. Derry Murkin and Sebastian Polter had initially equalized a 2-0 deficit before the guests took the lead again after just over an hour.

Thomas Ouwejan (69th) and Polter (79th) then struck back again, however, to secure Schalke a 4-3 home win. Schalke and Magdeburg are now neighbors in the table and will meet again on Saturday, February 24, at 8:30 p.m.

In the “points-after-deficit table”, on the other hand, the neighbors are Hertha BSC, Hannover 96 and Karlsruher SC. The trio have already scored four points after falling behind.

2nd division: Düsseldorf and Braunschweig are moral kings

The leaders are Fortuna Düsseldorf and Eintracht Braunschweig, who have managed to score eleven points after trailing. However, the blue and yellow lacked this strength last time out. Braunschweig were visiting Schalke and fell behind to Kenan Karaman’s goal in the 61st minute (0-1).

Braunschweig did not create any more compelling chances, so that Royal Blue was able to score an enormously important three points. Braunschweig is now in seventeenth place in the table, three points behind Schalke, going into match day 21. Royal Blue is in fourteenth place with 23 points.

On Sunday, February 11, at 1:30 p.m., three more are to be added in Kiel. The storks are in third place in the table, but are on a downward trend. They have not won in three games.

On matchday 18, for example, Eintracht Braunschweig won in Kiel – after trailing 0-1.
