The 1st FC Wülfrath continues to go full throttle in squad planning for the 2023/2024 season. The next two new players have been confirmed.
With six matchdays to go, 1. FC Wülfrath is nine points behind the bottom of the Landesliga. The signs point to a new start in the Bezirksliga.
And – regardless of the league – the Wülfrath team has been planning the new season very diligently for weeks. Two more players have joined the ranks of those already known to have joined the team – as RevierSport reported.
In planning the squad, the new Wülfrath sporting directors, Philipp Schmidt and Joscha Weber, have also made use of their connections in the Essen area.
With the 24-year-old twin brothers Nico and Robin Köhler from league rivals VfB Frohnhausen, two Essen players are strengthening the squad of 1. FC Wülfrath for the 2023/2024 season. The two Essen-born players were trained at the youth training centre of Rot-Weiss Essen and played there in the U17 and U19 Bundesliga.
At senior level, the Köhler brothers, who can be deployed both defensively and offensively, have played in the Westfalenliga for TuS 05 Sinsen and in the Oberliga for FC Kray together with their future coach Philipp Schmidt. “The board is certain that with these new additions we have brought further experience with outstanding character traits into the team. The talks only bode well,” says Wülfrath’s club boss Michael Massenberg.
Before the Köhler twins, Semih Demirhat (37 Oberliga games), Maximilian Eisenbach (89 Oberliga games) and Oguzhan Coruk (106 Oberliga appearances) had already signed for 1. FC Wülfrath. “If we are relegated, then we want to get back into the Landesliga quickly. That’s why we are also planning the new season early. I am sure that we will field a good squad in the coming series,” Massenberg told RevierSport a few weeks ago.
