Westfalia Herne has signed two new goalkeepers. One is a returnee, the other a talent who will mainly play in the U19.
After the relegation to the Landesliga, Westfalia Herne is pushing ahead with the announced upheaval. On Wednesday, the traditional club announced the signing of a new goalkeeper duo. David Wassmann is returning to SCW, and talented Efe Celik is coming from the FC Kray youth team.
The 24-year-old Wassmann is a native of Herne. Between 2016 and 2018, he also played for the first team, back then in Westfalen and Oberliga times. Wassmann collected seven appearances during this time.
“Now that the centre of his life is back in the Pott after 2 years, the snapper did not have to be persuaded for long to play for us again,” the Westfalia announced. Wassmann last played for the district league team Germania Lohauserholz.
The 17-year-old Celik, on the other hand, is a promising player. He will strengthen the Herne U19 team, but “should also get his chance with the first team”. Another goalkeeper, who will complete the team, is to be introduced soon. “On this position we will then be very well positioned for the upcoming tasks.”
In addition to Celik, five other talents from our own youth join the senior squad. Previous U19 players Emre Ucar, Berkant Uzen and Florent Affanoukoe will become permanent fixtures in the Landesliga team, while Mathis Pfohl and Nikola Crnogorac are set to feature for both the A Juniors and the men.
