Two new players in talks, regular number 1 likely to move to the 2nd division

Energie Cottbus is working on new signings – but a sensitive departure is looming in goal.

Energie Cottbus is ahead in the tight race for promotion in the 3rd division at the winter break. On the transfer market, however, the Lusatians have been holding back, unlike some of their league rivals. So far, Energie has signed Gianluca Pelzer, an exciting prospect from league rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II. The 19-year-old is 1.86 meters tall and plays as a center back.

“We want to continuously develop our club. This also includes changing our squad in the medium and long term and setting it up for the future. Not least, we have great confidence in Maniyel’s expertise, who, in addition to the many players in the men’s team, also very often watches young players from the youth teams. In Gianluca Pelzer, we have signed a player with potential and prospects and would like to accompany him in his further development. We are delighted that he is joining us,“ said his new head coach Claus-Dieter ”Pele” Wollitz.

However, there are a few other names still under discussion. One is Denizcan Cosgun, an attacking midfielder who is currently still under contract with Austrian second division club Austria Salzburg. He has scored five goals and provided four assists in 15 league games.

Points Table

And the topic of Tolga Cigerci is not off the table yet either. Cigerci was already involved in Cottbus’ training sessions last year as a trial player. His brother Tolcay is known to be one of the best, if not the best, players in the 3rd division. “We are in talks. Of course, he is also looking at other options,” Energie president Sebastian Lemke told the Lausitzer Rundschau newspaper. However, Turkey is still said to be the first option for Tolga Cigerci. And Cottbus could soon be forced to make another transfer. According to Tag24, Elias Bethke, who suffered a torn tendon after two games as Energie’s regular goalkeeper and has been out of action ever since, is set to replace the seriously injured Lennart Grill at Dynamo Dresden. According to the report, Bethke is scheduled to undergo his medical examination in Saxony on Tuesday, January 13, and then make the transfer.
