Two strikers back, Regensburg not in Gelsenkirchen as “tourists”

After two consecutive competitive victories, hope is returning to SSV Jahn Regensburg. The bottom-of-the-table team in the Bundesliga 2 are now traveling to the Ruhr Valley to face crisis-hit Schalke 04.

SSV Jahn Regensburg will be looking to take their recent momentum into the relegation battle at FC Schalke 04 on Sunday (1:30 p.m./Sky) and start climbing up the Bundesliga 2 table. “A lot of joy and enthusiasm play a role when you get to play at Schalke in this stadium in front of this crowd, it’s something special. Nevertheless, we are not going there as tourists, we want to take something away from there,” announced interim coach Andreas Patz.

With two consecutive 1-0 wins in the DFB Cup against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and most recently in the league against SV Elversberg, Regensburg are feeling more confident again. They are still bottom of the table, but another win could see them overtake crisis-hit Schalke. “The mood is of course much better after two wins than it was before. The boys were very happy and were able to let off steam. That was important,” said Patz about the small upward trend.

Jahn have two new options in attack. Christian Kühlwetter and Eric Hottmann are back after missing the game against Elversberg through injury. “It’s going to be a tough decision again about who plays, but also an exciting decision because they’re back to full health and are options for us,” explained Patz.

Attacker Noah Ganaus had benefited from the absence of the two strikers, but then also made a lasting impression with his decisive goal against Elversberg.
