Türkspor Dortmund can actually lose. The promotion hopefuls suffered their first defeat of the second half of the season against SpVgg Vreden.
The promotion race in the Oberliga Westfalen is still incredibly tight and the last matchday helped to make it even tighter.
ASC 09 Dortmund completed their mandatory task against FC Eintracht Rheine (2:1). Meanwhile, Türkspor Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the second half of the season. Sebastian Tyrala’s side slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Spielvereinigung Vreden for the first time since matchday 14 (November 12, 2023).
Despite taking a 1-0 lead, Türkspor were unable to hold on. In the aftermath, however, frustration over several controversial scenes prevailed: “The team showed a good game and honestly deserved more. I’m absolutely not a fan of criticizing the referee, but unfortunately we didn’t get three crystal-clear penalties that would have decided the game in the end. However, complaining doesn’t help and heads will go up again.”
For Tyrala and Co., it’s time to wipe their mouths and move on, because the next matchday is an absolute promotion showdown. Türkspor (62 points, 2nd place) will welcome ASC 09 Dortmund (61, 3rd place) for a derby and a potentially decisive summit meeting in the battle for promotion.
