U19 captain prefers U21 reserve to MSV – Regionalliga captain in his sights

Following its relegation to the Regionalliga West, MSV Duisburg has announced neither a contract extension nor an external addition. One talent is leaving.

As of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, only Maximilian Braune and Batuhan Yavuz are under contract with MSV Duisburg from July 1, 2024.

First of all: MSV fans probably don’t have to worry about Braune either. According to information from Forecasting, MSV officials immediately put a stop to a request from third-division club SC Verl. Tenor: Braune is not available and MSV plans to have him as number one in the 2024/2025 season.

Those responsible in Duisburg would also have liked to plan with Julius Bugenhagen. But the captain of the U19 team turned MSV down. According to forecasting information, he is moving to SC Paderborn II. He is set to receive a long-term contract with the second division club until June 30, 2027 and will initially play in the U21 team. This means: Bugenhagen will line up with Paderborn against Duisburg – in the Regionalliga West.

The 19-year-old central midfielder joined Duisburg in January 2019 from the youth ranks of German champions Bayer Leverkusen. Bugenhagen has played 23 games this season (three goals, three assists).

MSV Duisburg: Battle for Inanoglu, interest in Schweers

The loss of the U19 captain is already a blow to MSV’s new regional league set-up. It remains to be seen whether the Zebras can convince Bugenhagen’s team-mate Kaan Inanoglu of a future at the Wedau. The MSV decision-makers will discuss the future of the 18-year-old striker, who has scored 13 times in 15 U19 matches, in the coming week. In any case, Inanoglu has also received several inquiries from Bundesliga reserves.

According to our information, Lion Schweers has also received an inquiry from MSV Duisburg. The captain of Wuppertaler SV played a decent season – 25 games, six goals, one assist – and is still tied to WSV until June 30, 2025. However, like Benschop (Alemannia Aachen) and Damjan Marceta (Eintracht Trier), Schweers could also leave WSV early. The red and blue team have to save money. Perhaps this is the chance for MSV to get rid of the defender.

RS also recently reported that Wuppertal’s Aday Ercan and Mert Göckan as well as Malek Fakhro (1. FC Bocholt) and Elias Egouli (1. FC Düren) are on the MSV list. But nothing has been signed yet
