U19 captain wants to go to Hafenstraße – “That’s what I live for”

Mats Leonard Brune captained the U19 team of Rot-Weiss Essen to the fall championship in the U19 Niederrheinliga. The 18-year-old has big plans for the future.

The U19 team of Rot-Weiss Essen is wintering as the leader of the U19 Lower Rhine League table after the latest 4:0 victory against DJK Arminia Klosterhardt.

Team captain Mats Leon Brune has played a major role in his team’s successful first half of the season thanks to his strong performances.

At the beginning of November, Brune told Forecasting that the young Essen team’s goal was to finish the first half of the season in first place. Thanks to strong performances and sweeping victories in the following weeks, RWE actually won the fall championship.

“We had a few wobbles at the beginning of the season and didn’t get off to the perfect start, but we improved week by week and got better and better. We have come a long way in terms of football and have confidence in ourselves. Even if it’s 0-0 at half-time like against Klosterhardt, we don’t get nervous and just keep going. The goals come naturally,” explained Brune.

The captain also had great praise for his teammates: “I am very proud of the team because of the strong first half of the season and, in my opinion, we deserved to be the fall champions.”

After 13 match days, the team from Essen are top of the table with 32 points and a goal difference of 49:10. TSV Meerbusch are in second place with the same number of points and a goal difference of 33:9. The battle for the championship next year is therefore likely to be a very exciting one.

It’s not an easy step, but I give it my all every day to achieve my goal.
