Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team landed in Turkey on Monday. In Belek, BVB II will prepare for the rest of the season in the 3rd division.
Borussia Dortmund II will prepare for the rest of the season in the 3rd division, which starts on 14 January, in Turkey from 2 to 10 January 2023.
A newcomer will also be in Belek. Meanwhile, three players are missing. Two of them will travel to the training camp with the professionals.
RevierSport spoke to BVB II coach Christian Preußer shortly after they landed on Monday (2 January).
Christian Preußer, many teams are staying at home this year, partly because of the pleasant temperatures in Germany. What added value are you hoping for from the Turkey training camp?
In the summer, many of our players were in Switzerland with Edin Terzic’s team, now we have the entire squad together. We want to continue to grow together as a team and use the opportunity to work here in a concentrated manner without external influences, such as a winter onset. The conditions on site in Belek are top.
Have you also arranged test matches?
Yes, we will play against the Hungarian second division team MTK Budapest on 8 January. In this match, both teams will be able to use their entire squad, so we will play each other three times for 45 minutes.
Cyrill Akono is also in the squad. How much did you want this player in your squad?
We are very happy about his signing, after all, he was already a topic in the summer. Cyrill brings qualities that we have lacked offensively too often this season.
Will further additions follow?
That is not planned at the moment.
Do you also have players who may leave the club?
Of course, some players are looking for more playing practice and are looking around. With the exception of Luca Unbehaun, Soumaila Coulibaly and Abdoulaye Kamara, we have all the players with us. Luca and Soumalia are flying to Spain with the pros and Abdoulaye is still in rehab training.
