The U23 regional league team of second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf has once again landed three new players.
With Seymour Fünger, the second team of Fortuna Düsseldorf was able to sign a man from the 3rd division for the upcoming regional league season. The 21-year-old central defender moves to Flinger Broich from third-division team Hallescher FC.
Fünger was trained at the Bayer 04 Leverkusen youth training centre. The 1.91-metre tall defensive player moved from the Leverkusen U19 to Fortuna Köln in 2021. Last summer, he joined Hallescher FC in the 3rd league. In his career so far, Fünger has played in a total of nine Third League games (one goal), 19 appearances in the Regionalliga West as well as 40 Junior Bundesliga and three Youth League games.
Stefan Vollmerhausen, sporting director of the Düsseldorf junior training centre, says: “Seymour is an exciting player who will add stability to our defence. We have been interested in him for some time and are delighted that he has decided to join us at Flinger Broich. He has already gained experience in the Regionalliga and the 3. Liga and we trust him to develop even further. “
In addition to Fünger, the Düsseldorf side signed two other new signings for their U23s. Venhar Ismailji and Tobias Pawelczyk complete Nico Michaty’s squad for the new season.
Ismailji already played for Fortuna in his youth until 2018. In the past five years, he played for SG Unterrath, KFC Uerdingen and VfB Hilden. Last season, the 18-year-old midfielder made 18 appearances for Fortuna’s partner club Hilden in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga.
Pawelczyk trained with 1. FC Köln and played for SV Wehen Wiesbaden’s U19s for the past two seasons. The goalkeeper is now taking his first steps in senior football and completes the goalkeeping team of Fortuna’s U23.
“With Venhar Ismailji and Tobias Pawelczyk, we were able to win over two interesting players with good prospects. We have confidence in both of them to gain a foothold in senior football with us. We are delighted that they will be joining us in the coming season,” Vollmerhausen explained.
