FC Schalke 04 II has responded to the departure of Joey Müller by signing a new midfielder.
At the beginning of January, Forecasting reported that striker Felix Allgaier was on trial with FC Schalke 04’s second team. A good three weeks later, it’s official: Allgaier is joining the Royal Blues. Schalke made the announcement.
A week ago, both parties—Allgaier and his former club SC Freiburg II—mutually agreed to terminate his contract, allowing him to sign with Schalke.
“Felix is a strong midfielder who will strengthen the U23 defense following the departure of Joey Müller. He has already demonstrated this in the winter preparation games,” said Mathias Schober, Director of Knappenschmiede and Development, about the 20-year-old addition from Breisgau.
Allgaier started playing soccer at his local club, SV Haslach. He has played for SC Freiburg’s youth teams since the 2014/2015 season. The Offenbach native made the leap to professional soccer with the Breisgau club and made his debut for the U23s in the 3rd division. He has made a total of nine appearances in the third division so far, without scoring a goal.
The new signing is eligible to play immediately and could make his debut in the Regionalliga match against Wuppertaler SV on Saturday (February 3, 2 p.m., live ticker).
Jakob Fimpel, coach of FC Schalke 04’s U23 team, has set clear goals ahead of the start of the 2024 competitive season: “We have already put a number of players, such as Steven van der Sloot, Jimmy Kaparos, and Nelson Amadin, in a position where they can train with the licensed team at times. Steven has also already been in the second division squad. Some players also had the chance to show what they can do in test matches. Individual development and permeability will always be one of the main goals at the Knappenschmiede.” Perhaps Allgaier will also be able to attract attention and make his way into the professional team.
