UEFA admits Russian U17 teams: Ukraine therefore stays away from competitions

The Ukrainian Football Association will not take part in competitions to which Russian teams are admitted. At the same time, the association called on other countries not to take part in matches involving Russian teams.

The European soccer association UEFA had decided to allow Russian representatives in its U17 age group competitions again. According to UEFA, minors should not be punished for actions for which only adults are responsible.

Ukrainian association: UEFA decision “approves Russia’s aggressive policy “

The Ukrainian Football Association wrote that it was convinced that such a decision was unfounded amid Russia’s military action against Ukraine and condoned Russia’s aggressive policy.

According to the UEFA decision, the Russian national anthem may not be played or the Russian flag displayed at matches involving Russia. Furthermore, the matches may not be played on Russian territory.

The chairman of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, announced that Polish teams will not play against Russian teams. The English association is also sticking to its policy of not playing club and national teams against Russia or Russian clubs.
