On the fringes of the 2:1 defeat against Ingolstadt, the MSV Duisburg fans were finally fed up. They wanted to confront the club management.
For a long time, the supporters of MSV Duisburg kept a low profile during the sporting downturn in the current third division crisis season.
Discontinued support, marching off before the team arrived and shouts of “we’ve had enough”. Meiderich had been used to all of this for weeks.
On Saturday after the 2:1 defeat against FC Ingolstadt, the barrel overflowed. After the game, around 50 Ultras stormed the box area in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena.
Their target: the management around Peter Mohnhaupt. The stewards intervened too late and the police were also on site. It is not known how far the fans got in the end.
Some gathered in front of the stadium afterwards and walked from the bus entrance past the main entrance, while loud brass music could be heard from the Ingolstadt dressing room. The emotions in the stands could not have been more different. The Duisburg fans had also supported their team loudly against FCI right from the start
At least until the score was 0:2, when the North Curve briefly turned its back on the team. There was hope again after the final goal, but once again it was not enough for a second win of the season. The gap between the team and the safety zone remains at six points. President Ingo Wald has often made it clear that he understands the fans’ displeasure. Wald repeated himself after the defeat against Ingolstadt, emphasizing his “huge disappointment”.
In front of the lowest third division crowd in the history of MSV Duisburg with 8,189 spectators (excluding Corona games, in the derby against RWE the stadium was almost three times as full two weeks ago, editor’s note), there were also some banners to be read again.
“It’s unbearable, shoot from all angles!” and “Board, the time has come! Managing director out!” were among the slogans. The fans see the existence of their club under threat.
Sporting calm now returns for a short time. Only after the international break on November 25 will the Zebras travel to relegated second division side SV Sandhausen
