Union and Freiburg slip up and let Bayern pull away

Bayern chasers 1. FC Union Berlin and SC Freiburg dropped points in their penultimate games before the World Cup break.

Freiburg lost 1:3 (0:0) at RB Leipzig in the top match of the Bundesliga on Wednesday and are now only third with 27 points.

The in-form Leipzig team, on the other hand, climbed to fifth place with 25 points. Union only managed a 2:2 (2:2) against FC Augsburg and, in second place with 27 points, are four points behind the leaders.

Eintracht Frankfurt also remained in the top flight with a 4-2 (3-1) win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and are now fourth with 26 points.

FC Schalke 04, bottom of the table, gained new hope in the relegation battle with a 1-0 (1-0) win over FSV Mainz 05.
