Everything is getting more expensive – so it comes as no surprise that even the streaming offers for football are not keeping prices stable.
Those who want to watch football on TV in the upcoming season – or on their PC – will once again have to pay significantly more money.
DAZN was the first to follow suit a few days ago and once again increased its subscription prices. If you want to watch the Bundesliga there, you have to buy the most expensive subscription model (Dazn Unlimited).
And after the fourth price increase in two years, this already costs a hefty 44.99 euros a month. The middle subscription no longer includes the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
But DAZN customers are not alone in their frustration. Fans of the 3rd division, where MSV Duisburg, Rot-Weiss Essen, Preußen Münster and Borussia Dortmund’s U23 are active, also have to dig deeper into their pockets.
Fewer games on free TV, more expensive subscriptions
The reason: The games will only be broadcast in their entirety on MagentaSport. Fewer matches will be shown on free TV than last season. In 2022/23, there were 86 matches on the First or Third channels. Now there will be 68 matches. Thanks to a sub-licence agreement between Telekom and ARD.
This means that if you want to watch a lot of the 3rd League, you need a MagentaSport subscription. Until now, a twelve-month subscription (for non-telecom customers) cost 9.95 euros a month. Now you have to pay 12.95 euros. Three euros more or, in other words, a price increase of almost 30 per cent.
If you have a contract with Telekom, you now have to pay 7.95 euros instead of 4.95 euros, which is an increase of 60 per cent. If, on the other hand, you only want to subscribe to MagentaSport on a monthly basis, it will be even more expensive. For Telekom customers, the price goes up from 9.95 euros to 12.95 euros. For non-customers from 16.95 euros to 19.95 euros.
Here you can see that the rights to the 3rd League have also become more expensive. The DFB takes in 26.2 million euros, compared to 15.65 million euros in the previous period.
