VfB Lübeck faces third bankruptcy – One million euros needed within two days

The club’s management is sounding the alarm. The traditional club needs money – and it needs it fast.

According to club management, regional league soccer club VfB Lübeck is on the verge of bankruptcy. The supervisory board and executive board are facing a serious financial challenge, according to a statement. “After comprehensive analysis of the current financial situation in recent weeks, a significant liquidity gap of approximately one million euros has been identified.”

If this sum cannot be generated in the short term within the next two days through sponsorship, donations, and other measures, the club will be forced to file for bankruptcy by Thursday at the latest. “This would be the third time VfB Lübeck has filed for bankruptcy in the last 16 years, following 2008 and 2013, with serious and unpredictable consequences for the club and the entire soccer community in Lübeck,” the statement said.

The former second division club was relegated from the third division last season. The team is currently in tenth place in the Regionalliga Nord.
