VfB Oldenburg has made a prominent reinforcement. The newcomer has already spent several years in the Bundesliga and was last club-less.
In the fight to stay in the 3rd division, VfB Oldenburg has strengthened itself with a former Bundesliga player. Marc Stendera joins the promoted team, which is spending the winter just above the relegation zone in 16th place.
Stendera has been without a club for the last six months, but brings with him an impressive CV to the northern club. The 27-year-old made 78 appearances in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt and won the DFB Cup in 2018. The midfielder also celebrated the European Championship in 2014 as a German U19 international. After leaving Frankfurt in the summer of 2019, he played for Hannover 96 and FC Ingolstadt in the 2nd and 3rd divisions.
“We had good talks and I am looking forward to getting the opportunity to play football at a high level again at VfB,” said Stendera about his move. After leaving Ingolstadt in the summer, he kept fit at regional league club KSV Hessen Kassel. Now the standards specialist, who was once considered a great talent, is expected to help Oldenburg stay in the league.
“Marc will need some time to find his rhythm. However, it can be a win-win situation for all sides. With Marc, we get a seasoned player in the centre,” says Sebastian Schachten, sporting director of VfB.
Schachten continues: “We had many close games in which we didn’t score. In such a balanced league, that also has to do with experience, especially in pressure situations. Marc will help us in this respect because he knows the league and has already shown that he can handle such situations. “
