First matchday in the special round of the U19 Bundesliga: RWE loses narrowly, VfL Bochum celebrates a victory.
Two weeks after the end of the regular season in the U19 Bundesliga, the special round of matches has started.
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, is fighting for the German championship in the final round and will not enter the newly created competition, which will only be held this year, until a later date.
A total of eleven regionally divided groups of four will be played. Afterwards, the teams in first and second place as well as the teams in third and fourth place in the table will form a Germany-wide group and play each other one more time.
This is how the first match day went in the groups with West participation
On the first matchday this weekend, Rot-Weiss Essen narrowly lost 2-1 to Fortuna Düsseldorf in Group E. The team was relegated. Coach Simon Hohenberg celebrated his debut for the relegated team. He took over from Suat Tokat after the end of the regular season.
And RWE got off to a perfect start, taking the lead in the second minute through Mats Brune. Before the break, Düsseldorf’s Siwoo Yang (41st) and Alexander Holl (44th) turned the game around.
In the parallel match, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen celebrated a victory against Viktoria Köln. RWO, also relegated from the Bundesliga, prevailed 2:1. Kerem Yalcin (8th, 64th) was the double goal scorer.
In Group G, VfL Bochum got off to a successful start. Heiko Butscher’s team won 4:1 against Preußen Münster. Lennart Koedt (10th) and Nico Bozickovic (15th) provided an early lead. Nico Böll (56th) and Leon Tasov (77th) extended the result after the dressing room.
MSV Duisburg scored an even clearer victory in the second match of this group at SV Meppen. The final result was 4:0 for the Zebras. Hamza Anhari (36th), Anes Dziho (42nd) and David Zogu (69th) scored the goals for the Meiderich team, plus a Meppen own goal (78th).
