Wuppertaler SV won 3:1 against 1. FC Düren in front of a minus crowd at its alternative stadium in Oberhausen.
Just 357 (!) spectators made their way to Wuppertaler SV’s Regionalliga match against 1. FC Düren at WSV’s alternate stadium Niederrhein in Oberhausen.
But the minus crowd didn’t bother Hüzeyfe Dogan’s team. The red-and-blue team won 3-1, with goalscorer Semir-Serhat Güler scoring his 18th goal of the season and closing to within one goal of Gerrit Wegkamp of freshly crowned champions and promoted SC Preußen Münster.
“I’m glad we were able to keep the three points,” summed up a happy Dogan. Because the WSV certainly did not show its best performance of the season, but the goals of Marco Stiepermann, Lion Schweers and Güler should be enough. Vincent Geimer (58.) had even put the Dürener in the lead.
Three matchdays before the end, the Wuppertal team is in third place. In the background, the new sports director Gaetano Manno is already planning for the coming season. The squad is to be improved again in any case. The WSV wants to play at the top of the league.
For this, WSV also needs a goal scorer – like Güler. Even if the latter has several third-league inquiries, the sports director wants to fight for his goal-scorer. Manno recently emphasized to RevierSport: “Of course, this is a player I would like to keep. I scouted him early on at Bonner SC and I liked him right away. He has made a great development at WSV. We will do everything as a club to keep him. I would be very happy if we can do that. We can’t compete with third-league clubs, but we’ll still try to convince him to stay in Wuppertal. Let’s see how that turns out. “
