Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has mastered the first round of the cup. The regional league team won the city derby with 4:0 against Arminia Klosterhardt.

More than 1000 spectators came to watch the derby between Arminia Klosterhardt and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen at Hans-Wagner-Weg. In the end, the fourth-division team got the upper hand with a 4:0 win over the sixth-division team. RWO thus entered the 2nd round of the Niederrheinpokal.

RWO took the lead with the first corner of the game. Dominik Burghard (11th) headed the regional league team in front. Rinor Rexha (15th) should have made it 2:0 just a few minutes later. But the midfielder failed in a one-on-one duel with Arminia goalkeeper Talha Bayram, who stood still for a long time and made a strong save.

RWO failed to make things clear quickly and was almost punished by the courageous Landesliga team: In the 21st minute, they had a great chance to equalise. A cross slipped through to Niklas Daunheimer, from whose chest the ball bounced a little too far away in the penalty area and Kevin Kratzsch was able to prevent the Arminen from finishing.

Then RWO again: The agile Marius Kleinsorge to Manfredas Ruzgis (28th) and the attacker hit only the crossbar with his head. Luck for Klosterhardt! Shortly before half-time, as with the 0:1, it was again a standard situation that caused danger. This time, however, Burghard missed the ball.

Arminia had set their sights high for the second half and quickly had to swallow a bitter pill. Kleinsorge made it 3-0 for the favourites nine minutes after the restart. Ruzgis (78th, 87th, penalty) made everything clear.

The result remained the same. The 2023 Niederrheinpokal finalists mastered the first cup hurdle without shining. And that is what this competition is all about.
