Victory Over League Rival – VfL Bochum Remains Unbeaten in 2026

The VfL Bochum women’s team remained unbeaten in their sixth match of 2026. The Bochum women secured a narrow 1-0 victory at SG Andernach.

The year 2026 continues to be a successful one for the women of VfL Bochum. Last Sunday (March 15), the Bochum women won 1-0 (0-0) at SG Andernach. It was the sixth match for VfL in the 2. Bundesliga this calendar year, and for the sixth time, they remained undefeated.

“For long stretches, it was a rather disjointed game on both sides,” VfL head coach Kyra Malinowski is quoted as saying on the club’s website. “Andernach had a strong spell in the first half when we didn’t look as solid. Sarah Rolle kept us in the game then. But we also had two or three chances where we were one-on-one with the goalkeeper but weren’t clinical enough.”

That changed in the 72nd minute: Janine Angrick played a strong ball from midfield behind the defense into the path of Emely Joester, who finished coolly in front of the goal—the winning goal. “That was a very well-worked play.”

The lead held until the final whistle, partly because the defense did a very good job. “Toni and Franzi covered every inch of the field in the second half and cleared every ball with their heads.” In addition, the Bochum women won the second balls, which gave them more control in the second half and made them bolder in possession.

Malinowski: “In the first half of the season, we might have had to settle for a point. But we’ve developed since then—we’re staying in it and pulling off a dirty win with a lucky punch.”

With this result, the women of VfL Bochum solidified their sixth-place standing in the table. They aim to extend their unbeaten streak in their home match against Eintracht Frankfurt II this coming Saturday (March 21). Kickoff is at 3 p.m. at Lohrheidestadion.
