MSV Duisburg is staggering through the 3rd division. In an interview with the WAZ newspaper, the president commented on many sensitive issues.
MSV Duisburg is in a very difficult situation. After the 0:1 against leaders Jahn Regensburg, the traditional club continues to stagger towards the Regionalliga West.
They are already eight points behind the first non-relegation place in the 3rd division, with only 14 games left to play. MSV have eight of these away from home – starting on Saturday (2pm) at SC Verl.
Therefore, a lot has to come together for the “Zebras” to avoid relegation. For example, a series: In terms of the numbers that are usually enough to avoid relegation, MSV must now win every other game.
If you look at the figures for the season so far, that seems utopian. But neither coach Boris Schommers, who also has numerous injuries, nor MSV president Ingo Wald want to throw in the towel prematurely
We are talking to the sponsors and have already received a commitment from many of them to stay in the 4th division
Ingo Wald
In an interview with the WAZ newspaper, Wald emphasized with regard to a possible relegation: “Once again, I think it’s wrong to talk about the regional league. Nevertheless, to answer the question: Of course, the aim should be to return to the 3rd division immediately. We are talking to the sponsors and have already received a commitment from many of them to stay in the 4th division. Of course, we are also trying to attract new sponsors.”
One thing is clear: the club has to deal with both scenarios, with relegation being the more likely scenario at present. So it’s a good thing that the Regionalliga West now has a permanent promotion place and that a champion no longer has to go through relegation.
With a view to the rest of the season, Wald explained to the WAZ: “As long as it is still mathematically possible, we should subject everything to this goal. We must not allow ourselves to be distracted from this goal by other possible scenarios. Our approach must be for all those responsible to focus on staying in the league. “
