Türkspor Dortmund next travel to SG Wattenscheid 09. The fourth-placed team in the table has big plans for the new year and is looking forward to the task with vigor.
The Oberliga Westfalen enters the second round of the new calendar year next weekend. Türkspor Dortmund got off to a rather disappointing start to 2024, drawing 3-3 with Sportfreunde Siegen, a club in mid-table. The club led three times.
Clearly not enough for the ambitious club from Dortmund, right? Coach Sebastian Tyrala: “I don’t know whether the point was really too little. Siegen have a strong squad that is difficult to beat. Then there were the two dream goals. That’s annoying, but at the end of the day we’re not dissatisfied with the draw – despite leading three times.”
On Saturday at 3pm, Türkspor will face a big name in the German soccer world. SG Wattenscheid 09 may no longer be a top team on paper, but the SG got off to a perfect start with a 3:2 last-minute win against SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl.
Wattenscheid coach Engin Yavuzaslan has already set out his strategy for the clash with Türkspor in an interview with RS: “We want to break the home match curse!” The last home win was a long time ago. The 09ers won 4:3 against Rot Weiss Ahlen on December 20, 2022
We’re up against a team that will be keen to pick up more points. It will be a tough task.

The SG has also made some notable additions. Nico Thier and Umut Yildiz joined from league rivals TuS Bövinghausen. Berkan Firat, a regional league player from Rot Weiss Ahlen, also joined SGW in the winter.
Tyrala is therefore well aware that the game against Wattenscheid will be anything but a walk in the park. “The first half of the season no longer carries any weight. Wattenscheid will have an almost completely new team on the pitch from now on. They have enormous quality. We’ll be facing a team that will be keen to pick up more points. It will be a tough task.”
Both teams can expect a water battle. The pitch in Wattenscheid has probably taken a battering from the rain of the last few days. Incidentally, the match will be broadcast live on the WAZ website. On February 10 at 3 p.m., including the commentary team, there will be concentrated Oberliga action
