Türkspor Dortmund will be the next to travel to SG Wattenscheid 09. The team in fourth place has big plans for the new year and is looking forward to the task with vigor.
The Oberliga Westfalen enters the second round of the new calendar year this coming weekend. Türkspor Dortmund got off to a disappointing start in 2024. The fourth-placed team could not get past a 3-3 draw against the midfield club Sportfreunde Siegen. The club led three times.
That’s not enough for the ambitious club from Dortmund, is it? Coach Sebastian Tyrala: “I don’t know if the point was really not enough. Siegen has a strong team that is hard to beat. On top of that, they scored two fantastic goals. It’s annoying, but at the end of the day we’re not unhappy with the draw – despite taking the lead three times.”
On Saturday at 3 p.m., Türkspor will face a big name in German football. SG Wattenscheid 09 may no longer be a top team on paper, but they got off to a perfect start with a last-minute 3-2 win over SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl.
Wattenscheid’s coach Engin Yavuzaslan has already set the course for the clash with Türkspor: “We want to break the home curse!” It has been a long time since their last home win. On December 20, 2022, the 09ers won 4-3 against Rot Weiss Ahlen.
It’s coming up against a team that will be hungry to get more points. It’s going to be a tough task.

In addition, the SG has strengthened considerably. Nico Thier and Umut Yildiz came from league rivals TuS Bövinghausen. Berkan Firat, a regional league player, also came to SGW from Rot Weiss Ahlen in the winter.
Tyrala is therefore well aware that the game against Wattenscheid will be anything but a sure-fire win. “The first half of the season no longer has any significance. From now on, Wattenscheid will have an almost completely new team on the pitch. They have an extremely high quality. We are facing a team that will be hungry to get more points. It will be a tough task.”
Both teams can expect a real battle. The pitch in Wattenscheid has probably been affected by the heavy rainfall of recent days. Incidentally, the game will be broadcast live on the WAZ website. On February 10 at 3 p.m., the commentary team will be providing all the Oberliga action.
