Wattenscheid strengthen defence with son of ex-national player

The SG Wattenscheid 09 has reacted on the transfer market after the 0:8 debacle at Rot Weiss Ahlen and signed a defensive player.

16 goals conceded in the first three regional league games: This devastating result must have given the SG Wattenscheid 09 team some food for thought.

On Tuesday, the promoted team introduced a new defensive specialist. Tim Brdaric, son of former German international Thomas Brdaric, has signed a contract at the Lohrheide. The 22-year-old centre-back was last under contract at KFC Uerdingen.

Wattenscheid’s sporting director Christian Pozo y Tamayo is pleased with the new signing: “With Tim, we have been able to win over a player who, despite his 22 years, knows exactly what is important in the Regionalliga. He can play both in defensive midfield and in the centre of defence. Last season, he proved his ability to assert himself in both positions. We are happy that he has decided to join 09.”

Brdaric is also happy to wear the black and white jersey in the future: “I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to be a player at this club that is rich in tradition. I could immediately identify with the SG Wattenscheid. I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and my goal is to create a successful future with this club. “
