MSV Duisburg will face VfB Oldenburg on Monday. The Zebras will then be looking to record their fourth league win of the current season in front of their home crowd.
After 28,200 spectators against Rot-Weiss Essen (2:2) and 9,731 fans against SC Freiburg II (3:1), MSV Duisburg expects a five-figure crowd again on Monday evening against VfB Oldenburg.
According to press spokesman Martin Haltermann, a good 10,000 spectators will watch the match between MSV and promoted Oldenburg. The Duisburg team is expecting around 200 visiting fans.
The fans are back in the mood for MSV. The start to the season has been successful with ten points from five matches. Torsten Ziegner is happy about the good mood around MSV Duisburg and hopes for even greater euphoria. “I’m not putting the brakes on anything or anyone. My wish is that even more Duisburgers will be infected and come to our games in the stadium. I won’t put the brakes on the fans, just point out that every game in this 3rd division is difficult. It’s totally crazy. We have to take that seriously. Another tough opponent awaits us on Monday,” says the MSV coach.
Even though Oldenburg have only won one of their five games so far, Ziegner warns: “We have also seen Oldenburg’s games, they have rightly received a lot of praise. We are facing a good team that is in good shape after the 1:0 win over Verl. We know Oldenburg’s strengths, but we also know about our great energy.”
MSV should go into the match as clear favourites for the first time this season. The Duisburg coach is also aware of that. Ziegner is comfortable with this role of favourite: “Yes, absolutely, the team will appear as favourites. That’s how we see it. The boys are showing increasing form. We’re playing at home against a promoted team, and without sounding disrespectful, we’re favourites there. But it’s also clear that we don’t go anywhere or receive an opponent thinking that we might get a point. We always want to win! On Monday, we want to continue our little winning streak together with our fans. “
