“We didn’t really let Schalke get into the game”

FC Augsburg were delighted and relieved to advance to the next round of the DFB Cup against FC Schalke 04.

Even though FC Schalke 04 is currently a second division team in crisis, respect for S04 in German football is still very high. This was also the case for FC Augsburg.

Bayern were very happy and relieved to advance to the round of 16 in the DFB Cup with a 3-0 win over the great Schalke.

“I was very satisfied with the first half and went into the dressing room with a good feeling. We wanted to continue in the same way, control the game and add goals to decide the game early. But I was disappointed by a large part of the second half. We weren’t good with the ball, we didn’t win enough duels, and that’s how you let your opponent back into the game. Today, the only goal was to get into the next round, and I’m happy with the deserved victory, but how we played after the break was not what I had hoped for,” said Jess Thorup at the press conference.

FCA midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj, who also once wore the VfL Bochum shirt, agreed with his coach and told the FCA club media: “We’re through, so we can be satisfied with that. The first half was very good, we didn’t really let Schalke get into the game at all. After the break, you could tell that the game against Dortmund had taken a lot out of them. Even though Schalke then got into the game better, we made up for it towards the end and ultimately won deservedly.”
