DSC Wanne-Eickel is not a top team this season. Nevertheless, there is still something at stake for the traditional club in Westfalenliga 2.
The goals at DSC Wanne-Eickel have long since become more fundamental. Promotion from Westfalenliga 2 to the Oberliga Westfalen is no longer on the agenda for Wanne-Eickel this season. The upheaval in the summer was simply too great for that.
However, the DSC is not going into the new year without a plan or a goal, even if the top group already seems to have pulled away.
DSC coach Pascal Beilfuß on…
The first half of the league season: “It’s a pretty mixed bag. We had a really good start, then it was pretty mixed in terms of results in the last few weeks. That wasn’t nice. But the bottom line is that we’ve only had five defeats so far. That actually puts you in a good position. That shows that we’re hard to beat. That fits. What doesn’t fit are the many heavy defeats and the many draws. But we also had a major upheaval, so 21 points is actually perfectly okay. Our goals are still within reach.”
What was your best moment? “Winning against Sodingen in the 95th minute was great, of course. Or the goal from our goalkeeper in Hombruch was also great. Or advancing in the district cup against SpVgg Horsthausen, a direct league rival. But there wasn’t that one moment.”
What was your worst moment? “There wasn’t one either. In general, it was the many heavy defeats. We had the chance to win every game. The games this season are all so close. That annoys me. But the positive thing is that the games were always close and we were never without a chance. But at some point it’s not always just bad luck.”
The goals for 2024: “We want to get more points than in the first half of the season, that’s the team’s clear goal. We’re five points clear of the relegation places, so we want to get out of there as quickly as possible. We also want to start a small streak, which we unfortunately didn’t manage in the first half of the season. We also want to win the district cup, where we have a big task ahead of us with Wacker Obercastrop. We also still have potential as far as the team structure is concerned. But it’s normal that when you have 19 new people, they’re not immediately a team just because the coach says: ‘You’re a team now’. “
